Can a reader follow the evidence all the way through?

Two added on-demand views of cited cells missing from the display and placed sources beside long answers on larger screens. Isolated work from tools to answers exposed improvements in navigation alongside missed measurement criteria and a content error.

Two used three newly selected questions about synthetic documents to examine actual reading-tool calls, answers, and their source links in an isolated environment. Initially, 12 of 15 links reached their exact locations. Three cells containing values were omitted by the display cap, so their links fell back to the start of the sheet. A correctly written location did not by itself let a reader see the evidence. Two changed the reader to request a view including the cited cell when it is missing from the current display. Saved browser checks reusing the same three answers reported exact navigation for all 15 links. These were isolated screens with the answers’ material references remapped to validation copies, not newly generated answers or a recreated operating-user conversation. A self-managed restart and saved operational requests added evidence that the revised material could be served. Two also addressed long answers being collapsed, making the next source hard to select. On sufficiently wide and tall screens, opening a message’s source link now places the conversation and reading view side by side; closing it returns focus to the selected link. The observer directly confirmed that the operating server served the updated screen files. This does not establish that an existing user tab refreshed or validate usability; the viewed layout image came from a separate isolated environment. After the tool-location guidance was strengthened, a rerun of the same questions showed no broad search for tools across the three executions. However, two of the three executions created temporary directories outside the assigned working directory to store reading results. This was not exploratory file searching, but it did not meet the previously written measurement criterion of using no paths outside the working directory, so it remained recorded as a failure of that criterion. The agent’s own content grading passed two of the three answers. One answer correctly identified that a proposed change was unapproved, yet later called the original quantity confirmed without evidence that it had been approved either. Saved checks from this rerun also found all 15 referenced locations in the operational reading views. That confirms the targets exist; it is not a renewed check that clicking reaches a visible, correct location. It is separate from the earlier isolated browser navigation checks using the same saved answers. This was the developing agent’s review of a few questions rerun once each, not independent answer grading by the observer. It does not establish that the guidance caused lower content accuracy, or demonstrate general improvements in speed or quality. A real user’s full experience of document retrieval, answering, and checking sources still requires separate observation.

Edited for public reading from the observation journal. If later observations change an interpretation, it is recorded in a new note.
